#  Trézor.io/Start — Starting Up™ Your Device | Trézor®

> Start your Trezor wallet setup at Trezor.io/start with helpful instructions for device connection, software installation, security practices, …

# **[Trezor.io/start](https://trezor.io/start):**

The official Trezor onboarding portal at [**trezor.io/start**](https://trezor.io/start) serves as the single trusted entry point for initializing any Trezor hardware wallet. When you navigate to this exact URL—typed directly into your browser’s address bar—you access the official flow that guides you through downloading Trezor Suite, installing firmware, generating your recovery seed, and configuring device security . The content below reproduces the official guidance using the special characters (®, ™, ©, —, •, ✓, →) that appear across Trezor’s documentation, without any HTML markup.

**Important:** Always verify the URL reads exactly `trezor.io/start` — no extra characters, no subdomains, no hyphens. Phishing clones may use `trezorio-start.com`, `trezor.com/start`, or similar deceptive domains. Look for the padlock icon and the official Trezor® branding before proceeding .

***

**What You’ll Need •**

✓ Your Trezor device (Model One, Safe 3, Safe 5, or Model T)\
✓ USB cable (Micro-USB or USB-C, depending on model)\
✓ The included wallet backup cards and a pen\
✓ Approximately 15 minutes\
✓ A computer with Trezor Suite installed (or access to the web app for Android users)

**Note:** iPhone users cannot set up Model One via mobile — iOS does not support USB connections for Trezor devices .

***

**Step 1 — Install & Run Trezor Suite™**

Go to `trezor.io/start` → click **Download for desktop** → install Trezor Suite → open the application. Trezor Suite is the official interface for managing your device, transactions, and security settings .

**Security alert:** Only download Trezor Suite from `trezor.io` or the official GitHub repository. Sponsored search results and third-party download sites may distribute compromised installers .

***

**Step 2 — Plug In & Verify**

Connect your Trezor using the supplied cable. Trezor Suite will display “Connect & unlock your Trezor.” After connection, the Device security check appears → click **Set up my Trezor**. If anything looks unusual—damaged packaging, a pre-set PIN, or a device that powers on without firmware installation—stop immediately and contact official support .

***

**Step 3 — Install Firmware**

Your Trezor ships without firmware for security reasons. Trezor Suite will guide you through installing the latest official firmware. Choose between **Standard** or **Bitcoin-only** firmware → click **Install firmware** → wait for completion. The device restarts automatically .

**✓ Authenticity check (Safe 3 & Safe 5 only):** After firmware installation, Trezor Suite performs a cryptographic Secure Element check confirming your device was genuinely manufactured by Trezor and has not been altered .

***

**Step 4 — Create Your Wallet & Backup**

Click **Create a new wallet** (first-time setup) or **Recover** (restoring an existing wallet). Agree to the Terms of Use on your device → click **Continue to wallet backup** → review the backup instructions carefully → check the confirmation boxes → click **Create wallet backup** .

**Your recovery seed — critical information •**

Your Trezor will display your wallet backup words one by one on the device screen. These words are the **only** way to recover your wallet if the device is lost, damaged, or stolen.

* **Model One:** 24 words
* **Safe 3 (2024+ devices):** 20 words default (upgradeable from 12)
* **Safe 5:** 20 words default

**Write each word in exact order** on the provided backup card. Never photograph, digitize, or type your seed into any computer, phone, or website. Trezor Support will never ask for your recovery phrase. Anyone who obtains these words can steal your funds .

After writing all words, your Trezor will ask you to verify specific words to confirm your backup was recorded correctly .

***

**Step 5 — Set a PIN**

Click **Set PIN** → follow the on-screen instructions. Your PIN protects the device from unauthorized physical access. Use at least 4 digits (up to 50 permitted). Avoid simple sequences like `12345` or personally meaningful numbers such as birthdays .

**✓ Model One:** Uses a scrambled PIN grid — you enter your PIN via Trezor Suite while the device screen displays the scrambled layout, preventing keyloggers from capturing your input .\
**✓ Safe 3 / Safe 5:** Enter your PIN directly on the device’s touchscreen or buttons .

***

**Optional — Passphrase (Hidden Wallet)**

Trezor Suite offers an advanced feature called a passphrase—an additional word or phrase that creates a separate “hidden” wallet. This provides plausible deniability and an extra layer of protection. **Warning:** If you forget your passphrase, that hidden wallet is permanently inaccessible. Use this feature only if you fully understand how to manage it .

***

**⚠ Important Security Notice — October 2026**

Trezor has issued a warning regarding devices purchased from the reseller **CryptoBilis** (Southeast Asia) from **March 2026 onward**. A responsible disclosure reported a possible hardware implant in a Safe 5 device that could read the screen display—including the recovery seed—and transmit it over a cellular network .

**If you purchased any Trezor from CryptoBilis since March 2026:**

* **Already using it?** → Move funds immediately to a **newly created wallet with a new seed**. Do not reuse the old seed on any device .
* **Not set up yet?** → Do **not** set it up. Never enter an existing wallet backup on it .
* Contact Trezor Support to arrange a replacement device or voucher .

Trezor removed CryptoBilis from its authorized reseller list on October 9, 2026. No losses have been reported by CryptoBilis buyers as of the latest update .
